September is Black Trans Men's Health Month because it naturally aligns with several national and international health awareness observances that directly impact our community. Rather than creating a month that exists separately from other health initiatives, September allows us to strengthen existing conversations while ensuring that Black Trans men's health is intentionally included.

Throughout the month of September, we acknowledge awareness campaigns for cancer screenings, mental health, suicide prevention, recovery, HIV awareness, patient safety, and heart health. These issues are not separate issues, these are our issues too.

Black Trans men deserve to be part of every health conversation because we are human, we are men, and we deserve equitable access to quality healthcare, preventive screenings, accurate health information, and affirming medical care. Yet our unique health needs are too often overlooked in mainstream healthcare and public health initiatives. Black Trans Men's Health Month was created to provide a platform to change that, by increasing awareness, promoting education, encouraging prevention, and advocating for equitable care.

For those of us on testosterone, it is crucial to understand cardiovascular health and the risks of heart disease. We should also be encouraged to get routine cancer screenings based on our anatomy and personal healthcare needs, prioritize our mental health, seek support in recovery when necessary, and acknowledge that HIV prevention, testing, and education are relevant for everyone, including bisexual and gay trans men, because we exist and deserve recognition.

World Patient Safety Day serves as a vital reminder that every individual is entitled to receive safe, respectful, affirming, and competent healthcare. Medical professionals must treat Black Trans men with dignity, compassion, and the utmost standard of care.

September is a chance to not just raise awareness but to motivate action. It is a time for Black Trans men to THRIVE.
